Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday. The new airport, developed at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore, has an initial capacity to handle six million passengers annually and is designed to become a significant economic and connectivity hub for North Andhra. Future expansions are planned to increase its capacity to 40 million passengers per year.
The terminal's architecture draws inspiration from Andhra Pradesh's cultural traditions, with its roof design reflecting traditional Chuttilu cottages and other elements inspired by the Araku Valley's landscapes. The airport is equipped with advanced technologies, including AI-based systems and biometric passenger processing.
During his visit, Modi also laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore across various sectors. These include the ASIP Semiconductor Project, a renewable energy transmission system for the Kurnool Renewable Energy Zone, and several National Highway projects. The semiconductor project, a collaboration between ASIP Technologies and APACT of Korea, is the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh and aims to produce approximately 96 million chips annually.
