Google plans to shift Pixel production and development out of China by 2027

According to reports, Google has informed its suppliers of this plan, which includes relocating New Product Introductions (NPI). NPI is a crucial stage in bringing new electronic devices to market, involving the development, verification, and fine-tuning of production processes, often requiring the involvement of hundreds of engineers and significant investment in testing equipment.

While the majority of Pixel devices, including Pixel, Pixel Pro, and Pixel Fold, are expected to be developed entirely outside of China, the Pixel A-Series will reportedly continue to be developed in China for the time being. This marks a substantial departure for Google, as China has historically been central to its product development and manufacturing, even for models produced elsewhere.

This strategic relocation is seen by analysts as a structural shift rather than a routine supply chain adjustment, signaling that China is no longer considered indispensable for Google's core product development. The company has not publicly commented on these plans.
