Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, including BYD, Chery, and DFSK, have introduced their initial plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models in Indonesia. This strategic move, showcased at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show near Jakarta, signifies a diversification from a sole focus on battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to a dual approach encompassing both BEVs and PHEVs. BYD, in particular, is rolling out its DM hybrid technology, debuting the M6 DM Cross, to cater to the growing demand for PHEVs in the Indonesian market. This strategy is driven by the need to cover diverse usage scenarios and address the limitations of charging infrastructure in archipelagic nations like Indonesia. BYD's latest DM 5.0 system boasts impressive fuel efficiency and a combined range of up to 2,100 km. The company views the M6 DM as a key model due to its seven-seater capacity, proven durability, and affordability, aiming to accelerate the adoption of electrified vehicles in the domestic market. BYD has already established a significant presence in Indonesia's EV market, with approximately 90,000 new energy vehicles in use and cumulative sales approaching 20,000 units, capturing about 40% of the country's EV market.
