Tencent Holdings is set to become the largest shareholder of Chinese artificial intelligence developer Manus, acquiring the stake from Meta, the parent company of Facebook. This transaction follows pressure from Beijing, which demanded that Meta unwind its acquisition of the AI firm to ensure it remains under domestic control.
Meta had initially acquired the Chinese agentic artificial intelligence developer in December 2025. However, the Chinese government intervened, necessitating the divestment.
Tencent, a major Chinese technology conglomerate headquartered in Shenzhen, has a broad portfolio including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and video games. The company was founded in 1998 and is one of the largest companies by market capitalization in China.
