President Lee Jae Myung has stated that South Korea has the potential to lead the global artificial intelligence era by capitalizing on its inherent strengths. This statement comes as a recent poll indicates a decline in his approval rating.
The National Barometer Survey, conducted from Monday to Wednesday, revealed that Lee's job performance approval rating has slipped to 55 percent, a decrease of 3 percentage points from the previous survey. His negative assessment also saw a slight decrease, falling 1 percentage point to 34 percent.
In addition to the presidential approval, the poll showed a drop in support for the ruling Democratic Party, which fell 4 percentage points to 38 percent. The main opposition People Power Party garnered 22 percent support, an increase of 2 percentage points.
The survey also addressed a government proposal to establish an integrated military academy for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. A majority of respondents, 55 percent, opposed this plan, while 34 percent supported it. Critics, including some armed services members and the People Power Party, argue that a combined institution could compromise overall military readiness.
The poll was conducted by Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research, surveying 1,000 individuals aged 18 and older. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
