Samsung Electronics Co. announced plans to begin construction of its second semiconductor fabrication plant in Taylor, Texas, by the end of 2026. The facility, referred to as Taylor Fab 2, is anticipated to commence production in 2030.
During a conference call discussing its earnings report, the company stated that construction of its first plant, Taylor Fab 1, is progressing as planned and is expected to begin operations in 2026. Following the commencement of operations at Taylor Fab 1, Samsung intends to gradually increase its production capacity for 2-nanometer process technology.
Samsung also indicated that it is reviewing plans to secure additional fabrication capacity in response to increasing customer inquiries regarding its 1.4-nanometer process. The company noted that detailed plans for this expansion will be developed in stages, contingent on customer orders and discussions. Currently, Samsung is shifting its mature processes toward more profitable 3-nanometer production while concentrating resources on high-value specialty products that present significant technological barriers.
