Samsung Electronics Co. is accelerating its plans to open its first semiconductor fabrication plant at its Yongin chip cluster, aiming for operations to begin in 2029. This move is one to two years ahead of the original schedule and is supported by the government's expedited development of the Yongin National Industrial Complex, a key project for the company's next-generation semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
An industry official noted that the earlier operational start will enable Samsung to better address the rapidly growing global demand for artificial intelligence chips.
