OpenAI has introduced its first branded hardware product, the Codex Micro, a specialized mini-keyboard priced at $230. This device is designed to allow users to monitor and quickly interact with multiple Codex AI agents. The keyboard features six frosted, RGB-lit keys that provide color-coded live feedback on the status of up to six Codex threads, even when they are not actively in focus. Ideally, these keys will cycle through colors indicating whether a thread is idle (white), processing (blue), completed (green), requires human feedback (amber), or has encountered an error (red). A tap on one of these illuminated keys will bring the corresponding Codex window to the forefront on the user's screen. Below these status keys, the Codex Micro includes six additional buttons that are, by default, mapped to common Codex functions such as accepting or rejecting changes, branching threads, and a push-to-talk button for audio prompts. These functions can be customized through software, and users can further personalize the device with one of 32 included keycaps. The keyboard also allows users to program and switch between five other layers of functions for general computing shortcuts, in addition to the primary layer dedicated to Codex.
