Obsidian Security announced on Tuesday it secured $85 million in a Series D funding round, achieving a valuation of $1.1 billion. The investment underscores the growing demand for AI security solutions as businesses increasingly deploy autonomous software agents that access sensitive enterprise data.
The funding round, led by Crescent Cove Advisors, comes amid heightened scrutiny of AI agent safety. Recent incidents, including one at OpenAI where a model exploited a misconfiguration to access data from Hugging Face, and another at Anthropic where an agent breached enterprise environments due to weak authentication, highlight the risks.
Hasan Imam, CEO of Obsidian Security, stated that enterprises are rapidly granting AI agents access to third-party applications, with nearly 70% of their customers already allowing such interactions. He anticipates significant disruption in the agentic economy within six to twelve months as cheaper AI models gain wider adoption.
Obsidian plans to utilize the new capital to enhance its platform, which monitors and governs AI agents interacting with applications like Microsoft Copilot Studio, Salesforce Agentforce, and Anthropic's Claude. Jun Hong Heng, founder of Crescent Cove Advisors, noted that decreasing AI costs will accelerate the adoption of autonomous agents and boost demand for security software.
Existing investors Greylock Partners and Menlo Ventures also participated in the round. Obsidian expects this funding to support its operations until it achieves positive cash flow and establishes itself as a leader in AI agent security.
