Japan and Taiwan are being urged to harmonize their drone regulations to foster greater industrial cooperation and market access, according to a top official in Japan's drone industry. The call comes as ties between the two nations' drone sectors strengthen, highlighted by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in June 2025 between the Japan UAS Industrial Development Association (JUIDA) and the Taiwan Excellence Drone Industry Business Opportunities Alliance (TEDIBOA).
The MOU, signed during the Japan Drone 2025 exhibition, aims to promote the peaceful use of drone technologies and deepen industrial collaboration. It sets a foundation for technical exchange, regulatory framework alignment, and human resource development. The agreement also focuses on integrating supply chains, leveraging Japan's expertise in precision machinery and control technologies with Taiwan's strengths in chips and system integration.
During the Japan Drone 2025 event, 18 Taiwanese companies participated in a dedicated pavilion, showcasing the growing momentum for joint efforts to enhance global competitiveness. The Japanese government has reportedly allocated over 100 billion yen to support the growth of its drone sector.
TEDIBOA, an alliance of Taiwanese drone-related entities, is dedicated to promoting the global expansion of the UAV industry and international technical exchange. The alliance, supported by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economic Affairs, is actively seeking international partnerships to elevate Taiwan's drone industry on a global scale.
