- Hacker group RansomHouse claims to have stolen data from Nichirei.
The hacker group RansomHouse has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Japanese frozen food giant Nichirei, posting stolen data online. The attack disrupted the company's cold storage and delivery operations, affecting numerous businesses.

The attack highlights the vulnerability of critical food logistics infrastructure to cyber extortion campaigns, demonstrating how disruptions can cascade through the supply chain and impact major businesses and consumers.
A hacker group known as RansomHouse has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Nichirei, a major Japanese frozen food and refrigerated logistics company, and has posted stolen data online. The incident, which occurred around July 13, 2026, caused significant disruptions to Nichirei's cold storage operations and nationwide food deliveries, impacting numerous businesses including supermarkets, restaurants, and school lunch programs.
RansomHouse, which is known for data theft and extortion rather than traditional ransomware encryption, stated on its dark web leak site that it had exfiltrated confidential data and threatened to release it unless Nichirei made contact. The company acknowledged the claim and confirmed that some affected servers contained personal information, which it has begun notifying individuals about. Nichirei has stated it is responding in coordination with police and other relevant authorities.
The cyberattack led to system failures that affected approximately 140 distribution centers. KFC Japan, for instance, experienced ingredient shortages and shortened operating hours at over 1,300 of its restaurants due to the delivery disruptions. While business operations have since returned to normal, Nichirei has been working to restore its systems, with full recovery anticipated by the end of July 2026. Researchers have noted that RansomHouse has previously targeted Japanese companies, including an attack on online retailer Askul Corp. in October 2025.
