Malachyte, a new startup founded by former Spotify engineers Sidd Motwani, Ian Anderson, and Shivaditya Sinha, has raised $10 million in seed funding. The company aims to bring the sophisticated recommendation AI developed at Spotify to the e-commerce sector. Their system, dubbed "two-headed Vector AI," is designed to predict a shopper's immediate intent and needs in real-time, moving beyond traditional personalization methods that rely heavily on historical purchase data and demographics.
The core belief behind Malachyte is that most online stores fail to adequately leverage the real-time signals shoppers provide. The startup's AI analyzes every interaction, from hovers and clicks to scrolls and searches, to build a dynamic profile of user preferences and current goals. This allows for immediate adjustments to product recommendations within a single session, making the shopping experience more relevant.
Motwani explained that the system begins forming before the first click, using available context upon page load. He highlighted how a search for "heavy-duty boot" followed by clicks on steel-toed boots would immediately elevate work pants and gloves in recommendations, even without an account or prior history. Each subsequent action refines the user's profile, enhancing relevance over time.
The company has been developing and testing its technology since 2024, working with over 20 enterprise clients in travel, grocery, and retail before focusing on e-commerce. The platform went live in the fall of 2025 and has been generally available to Shopify merchants since June 2026 via a native integration, with larger retailers able to integrate through an API. The funding will be used to scale distribution and hire product and commercial leaders.
