AI coding startup Cursor is significantly expanding its presence in India with the launch of its first country-specific subscription plan, Cursor Start. Priced at ₹649 (approximately $7) per month, this offering is designed to cater to the burgeoning Indian developer market, which has become Cursor's third-largest globally and seen its user base more than triple in the past year.
This localized pricing strategy aims to drive scale and accessibility, according to Simon Green, Cursor’s head of Asia-Pacific and Japan. Cursor Start provides access to models like Composer 2.5 and Grok 4.5 with enhanced usage limits, cloud agents, and other features, positioned as an intermediate option between the free tier and the full $20-a-month Pro subscription. Unlike the Pro plan, Cursor Start does not include access to frontier AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic or advanced features like Bugbot and Auto Mode.
The move comes weeks before Cursor's expected acquisition by SpaceX, a $60 billion all-stock deal. Cursor is also strengthening its operational footprint in India by hiring its first salesperson and other support staff, and establishing a government affairs office.
