China has unveiled a comprehensive plan to significantly expand its industrial 5G private networks and bolster the integration of its digital and real economies. Eight central government departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, jointly issued guidelines targeting the establishment of 50,000 industrial 5G private networks by 2030. This initiative aims to drive the value-added output of the industrial internet core industry beyond 2.5 trillion yuan ($368.4 billion) within the same timeframe.
The plan emphasizes deepening the application of artificial intelligence within the industrial internet, with a goal for AI to cover all 207 industrial sub-categories by 2030. China is also actively developing an evaluation system for industrial large language models and intelligent agents, with the China Academy of Industrial Internet having already assessed nearly 200 AI models through an automated testing platform.
These new targets build upon existing progress, including a 1.67 trillion yuan value-added output for the industrial internet core industry by the end of 2025 and the establishment of 1,260 5G factories nationwide. The plan also seeks to cultivate influential industrial internet platforms and distinctive 5G factories.
