Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup specializing in differentiating human users from bot traffic, has successfully raised $200 million in a funding round spearheaded by Insight Partners. Founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers, Spur's technology addresses the growing challenge enterprises face in identifying fake users and malicious bot activity.
Insight Partners' Thomas Krane highlighted the increasing difficulty organizations have in discerning the infrastructure behind online activity due to the proliferation of sophisticated VPNs and proxy networks. This challenge is amplified by a recent report from Cloudflare, which indicated that bots now account for more internet traffic than humans for the first time in history. Cloudflare founder and CEO Matthew Prince noted that the rapid growth of agentic traffic has accelerated this shift, surpassing earlier predictions.
The company's prescient focus on bot detection comes as the internet grapples with an unprecedented surge in automated traffic, posing significant threats to online security and integrity.
