National consumer price index (CPI) inflation in Sri Lanka quickened to 4.7% year-on-year in April. This acceleration was primarily driven by a substantial surge in transport prices, which rose by 14.3% year-on-year, attributed to higher oil prices and a weaker ringgit. Concurrently, core inflation, as measured by the non-food and non-energy component of the NCPI, also picked up, increasing to 4.4% year-on-year in April from 2.7% in March.
