Switzerland CPI Holds Steady at 0.6% Annually in May

The core inflation rate, which excludes volatile items like energy and food, saw a 0.1% increase on a monthly basis. Annually, the core CPI remained unchanged at 0.3%. Despite some upward price pressures from energy costs, the overall inflation outlook for Switzerland is not expected to shift significantly in the near term, especially given the low starting base.

The Swiss franc's continued strength, with EUR/CHF down 1.4% year-to-date, is a key factor. A stronger currency tends to exert deflationary pressure, which remains a primary concern for the Swiss National Bank (SNB). The SNB is monitoring these trends, balancing potential inflation risks with the ongoing deflationary impact of a strong franc.
