Trade at Carnew Mart has been strong in both sheep and dairy sectors for the first half of 2026. According to yard manager Eugene Clune, the sheep trade, after a slow start, saw significant strengthening from March, with high prices for hoggets and spring lambs. Ewes also commanded strong prices. The dairy trade, initially a concern for Clune, proved positive, especially after a successful clearance sale in January. A March sale achieved an average of €3,500 for a herd of cows, with many selling between €2,700 and €3,100. Strong interest in Friesian bull and heifer calves is seen as a positive indicator for the dairy industry's future.
